Cheque facility won't be withdrawn, says the govt
It is a matter of relief that the Union Government has clarified that cheque facility won't be withdrawn.

There were stray reports that an overenthusiastic government favaouring total digitalisation may go in for banning the cheque books.


It is gratifying to note that the government won't proceed with the reforms this way.

IUML candidate K N A Khader wins Vengara by-election
IUML has retained the Vengara assembly seat. KNA Khader, the UDF candidate, won the election with a margin of 23310 votes.

The UDF candidate secured a total of 65227 votes, LDF candidate P P Basheer secured 41917 votes and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) candidate K C Naseer secured the third position with 8648 votes.

The BJP candidate K Janachandran managed to secure only 5728 votes.

In 2016 assembly election, UDF candidate P K Kunhalikkutty won the constituency by defeating his immediate rival P P Basheer of CPM by a huge margin of 38,057 votes.

This time, the victory margin of the UDF candidate has shown a decline of 14747 votes. In the Lok Sabha bypoll held in April UDF secured a comfortable majority in the assembly segment.
